SAN MARCOS, TEXAS –
Sophie Davis put up an impressive .643 hitting percentage with 20 kills, but James Madison volleyball fell 3-1 (17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 12-25) to Texas State on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Arena.

The Dukes dropped to 9-4 (3-1) while the Bobcats improved to 10-5 (3-2).
Â
Davis led the team in kills and did not recording a single attacking error until the fourth set.
Miëtte Veldman followed with 15 kills of her own, while
Caroline Dozier recorded 35 assists.

The Bobcats were led by Lauren Teske who recorded 18 kills and Emily Dewalt who notched 52 assists, a total of 112 for the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The set started off even, but a 6-0 run put Texas State up 19-13. The Bobcats kept that momentum going to take the first set.

Second Set
In another back-and-forth start, the Bobcats once again took the lead, with their largest margin being six points. The Dukes fought back, but ended up falling 25-21.

Third Set
JMU got started with 6-1 lead but Texas State responded with a 4-0 run to bring the score closer at 7-6 and eventually pulled ahead. A 6-1 run from the Dukes gave them back a 20-16 lead, allowing them to win a close 25-23 set to keep the match going.

Fourth Set
The Bobcats got ahead early on, and a 13-1 run clinched the victory for the home team.

The Dukes are back home to take on in-state foe Old Dominion on Oct. 7 & 8. The Friday game will be streamed on ESPN+.
