ATLANTA – Four Dukes recorded hitting percentages over .400 in James Madison volleyball's 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-13, 25-13) win over Georgia State on Friday evening at the GSU Sports Arena.
The Dukes improved to 12-4 (6-1 SBC) while the Panthers fell to 5-14 (1-6 SBC).
Danielle Nathan (.405) and
Sophie Davis (.483) both tallied 17 kills while
Annie Smith (.500) recorded nine and
Elizabeth Helmich (.600) had seven.
Miëtte Veldman earned her third double-double of the season with 14 kills and 13 digs. At setter,
Caroline Dozier notched 53 assists, just one short of her season high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes started off strongly with a 7-1 run and maintained their lead for the entirety of the set. Georgia State closed the gap with a 6-0 run to bring the score up 20-19, but a 5-1 run won the set for JMU.
Second Set
The Panthers sprung to an early lead, but the Dukes came back and the rest of the set was neck-and-neck. In extra points, Georgia State evened out the match 1-1.
Third Set
After an even second set, JMU responded with two separate 5-0 runs in the third for a dominant 25-13 win.
Fourth Set
JMU took control in the final set with a 5-0 run to start things off. The Dukes wrapped things up with a 4-1 run to win the match.
