MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Three players scored in double figures for James Madison as the Dukes topped Millersville 80-39 on Tuesday night inside the Pucillo Gymnasium.
JMU improves to 1-1 overall, while the Marauders drop to 0-1 and are set to host Shaw on Saturday.
Senior
Kiki Jefferson led all scorers with 21 points, while juniors
Kseniia Kozlova and
Claire Neff each added 10. On the defensive end, Jefferson grabbed seven rebounds and tied her career-high of four steals. Freshman
Kadidia Toure pulled down six boards and had a pair of steals.
How It Happened
- James Madison shot an efficient 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the floor in the first period to make it 16-11 Dukes.
- After a close first quarter, JMU held the Marauders to just four points in the second quarter.
- Jefferson wrapped up the second half with 14 points to lead all scorers as the Dukes headed into the locker room up 34-15.
- James Madison expanded its lead to 28, taking a 56-30 advantage after three.
- The JMU defense locked in during the final period, allowing only nine Marauders' points to earn an 80-36 road victory.
Game Notes
- JMU knocked down eight three-pointers, the most for the program since hitting nine last season at Northeastern on Feb. 25.
- James Madison held Millersville to 39 points, the lowest point production by an opponent since William & Mary managed to score just 39 against the Dukes on Jan. 7, 2022. Additionally, the Marauders did not secure an offensive rebound in the contest. This is the first time in Head Coach Sean O'Regan's tenure that his team has not allowed an offensive board.
- With a 21-point performance tonight, Jefferson has scored at least 20 points in five straight outings, extending her streak from last season.
- Kozlova registered 10 points, tying her career-high which she set against Maine on Nov. 7.
- Neff also scored 10 points, the first double-digit outing for the junior since producing 13 last season at Towson on Jan. 16.
- Junior Peyton McDaniel hit 2-of-5 (40.0%) from deep for eight points. The guard has knocked down triples in back-to-back games for the first time since sinking three at Drexel (Feb. 28, 2021) and five versus Northeastern (March 11, 2021), respectively.
- The team tallied a season-high 13 assists after dishing out four against Maine on Nov. 7.
