THE DUKES
- The James Madison women's basketball team is set for a road test against former CAA foe William & Mary this Sunday, Dec. 11, inside Kaplan Arena. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.
- The Dukes are coming off a tough 70-59 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Dec. 4. Down 37-30 at halftime, JMU came out strong in the second half, holding the Hawks to six points in the final quarter for the victory at home.
- James Madison earned the win despite The Shore's 14-point lead halfway through the second quarter. This is the second game in a row in which the Dukes have erased a double-digit deficit. Moreover, the team has trailed at halftime the past two games but has won each contest.
- Junior Peyton McDaniel came off the bench and stole the show with a season-high 22 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the floor and 5-of-8 (62.5%) from beyond the arc. McDaniel has hit five or more three-pointers twice this season.
- Freshman Cheyenne Rowe was perfect from the field, going 5-for-5 for a season-high 11 points. Graduate student Caroline Germond dished out a career-high nine assists, six of which came in the second half.
- The team currently ranks first in the Sun Belt and 12th in the nation in rebound margin (+11.6). Additionally, the Dukes are 28th in the country with a field goal percentage defense of 34.5%.
- Senior guard Kiki Jefferson boasts three top-25 marks in Division I: points per game (13th - 20.6), free throws made (13th - 48), and free throws attempted (21st - 61).
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
- William & Mary is 4-4 and recently fell at home to undefeated Virginia, 83-54, on Dec. 7.
- The Tribe is led by guard Riley Casey who averages 19.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. She also paces the team from three-point range, shooting 48.9% (23-of-47).
- Bre Bellamy is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 6.9 boards per contest. The forward recorded a double-double against Coppin State (Dec. 4) with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
- James Madison leads the all-time series with a 75-17 record. The Dukes have won the previous eight meetings and 10 of the last 11.
- JMU has faced William & Mary more than any other opponent in program history with Sunday's contest being the 93rd meeting.
- The most recent matchup came last season when James Madison earned a 64-58 road win on Feb. 6, 2022. The Dukes found themselves down by 18 early in the second quarter but bounced back thanks to a career-high 32 points from Kiki Jefferson.
