HARRISONBURG, Va. – Down 37-30 at halftime, James Madison came out strong in the second half, holding Maryland Eastern Shore to six points in the final quarter for a 70-59 win inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes improve to 6-2 for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign. Meanwhile, the Hawks (3-7) look to bounce back in their road contest at East Carolina on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Peyton McDaniel came off the bench and stole the show with a season-high 22 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the floor and 5-of-8 (62.5%) from beyond the arc. Freshman
Cheyenne Rowe was perfect from the field, going 5-for-5 for a season-high 11 points. Graduate student
Caroline Germond dished out a career-high nine assists, six of which came in the second half. Junior

How It Happened
- The Hawks jumped out to a 10-3 lead four minutes into the contest.
- UMES held the advantage at the end of the first quarter, 16-10, scoring 11 points off turnovers.
- McDaniel got the hot hand in the second quarter with 11 points, shooting 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the field and hitting a pair of triples. However, Eastern Shore increased its lead to seven, heading into the break up 37-30.
- The Dukes bounced back with a quick 8-0 run early in the third, with five points coming from junior Kseniia Kozlova.
- JMU chipped away at the Hawks' advantage, tying the game at 53 at the end of the third quarter. McDaniel, Neff, and fellow junior Steph Ouderkirk all connected on three-pointers in the period.
- Senior Kiki Jefferson helped the Dukes close the game out, scoring seven points and pulling down three rebounds in the final quarter as JMU went on to win 70-59.

- JMU leads UMES in the all-time series 4-0.
- James Madison came out on top despite Maryland Eastern Shore's 14-point lead halfway through the second quarter. This is the second game in a row in which the Dukes have erased a double-digit deficit. Moreover, James Madison trailed at halftime for the second consecutive game.
- The Dukes dominated the paint with a 34-12 advantage.
- Coming into the contest, McDaniel's season-high in points was 17 against #13 North Carolina on Nov. 20. McDaniel equaled that output in the first half against the Hawks, highlighted by five treys.
- McDaniel finished with 22 points, the first time the Birdsboro, Pa. native has reached the 20-point plateau since scoring 22 versus Northeastern on March 11, 2021.
- James Madison saw 22 of its 30 first-half points come from the bench. The team scored 43 points off the bench, the most for the Dukes this season. Defensively, JMU held The Shore to just eight bench points.
- Rowe's perfect day from the floor was the program's first (min. of three attempts) since Jefferson went 7-for-7 versus Drexel on Feb. 28, 2020.
- The Dukes recorded a season-high 18 assists, the fourth time this season the team has reached double figures in the category. Additionally, 18 assists are the most for JMU since dropping 20 dimes against UNCW on Feb. 16, 2021.
