Lacrosse Pushes Past High Point For First Home Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison lacrosse picked up its first home win of the season, defeating High Point 11-6 at Sentara Park on Saturday.
The Dukes finished the month of February at 2-2, while High Point dropped to 0-3.
Junior attacker Tai Jankowski secured her first career hat trick to lead the JMU offense. Sophomore attacker Isabella Peterson led all scorers with five points off two goals and three assists. Eight different Dukes found the back of the net, while JMU recorded a season-high six assists. Redshirt Senior goalkeeper Molly Dougherty made nine saves and finished with a .600 save percentage.
Dougherty's first save of the game was her 500th for her career, as she became the sixth Duke all-time to reach the 500-save mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – James Madison 4, High Point 2
High Point took an early 2-1 lead before JMU struck three times in the final 7:39 of the quarter. Four different attackers – Jankowski, Katie Checkosky, Peterson and Kacey Knobloch scored in the quarter.
Second Quarter – James Madison 7, High Point 3
High Point scored just one goal in the period, as Dougherty made four key saves. With the Dukes up 5-3, Jankowski scored a pair of goals 3:28 apart to push the lead to four and give her the hat trick.
Third Quarter – James Madison 9, High Point 3
Senior Ava Frantz scored for the second straight game before Peterson extended the lead to six. Dougherty made three more saves in the quarter, as the Dukes shut out their opponent in the third quarter for the second straight game.
Fourth Quarter – James Madison 11, High Point 6
Senior Brittany Bill and redshirt sophomore Taylor Marchetti became the seventh and eighth Dukes to score a goal in the game, as JMU cruised to victory.

The Dukes will play their first true road game of the season, traveling to Ohio State for a 3 p.m. game on Friday, March 4. Ohio State will be the first of three straight contests against Big Ten opponents.
