Ten-Goal Run Propels JMU Past Towson for Fourth Straight Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. – #12 James Madison lacrosse utilized a 10-goal scoring run to bridge the halves en route to its fourth straight win with a 14-8 victory against Towson in the conference opener on Wednesday at Sentara Park.
The Dukes improved to 7-4 (1-0) on the season, while the Tigers fell to 3-6 (0-1). Wednesday was JMU's sixth straight win versus Towson dating back to the 2017 season.

Redshirt sophomore Isabella Peterson scored a game-high five goals while adding eight draw controls. It marked the third straight game she's netted as least five goals. Peterson's fifth goal of the evening was also her 40th of the season and the 100th of her career.

Sophomore Katelyn Morgan tied her career high with a game-best six points off three goals and three assists.

Defensively, redshirt junior Mairead Durkin kept up her nation-leading total with another four caused turnovers and added a pair of ground balls. Sophomore Carolyn Thistlewaite also notched two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Towson 4, James Madison 3
With the game knotted at two, Towson scored twice to grab a 4-2 lead at the 3:45 mark. Junior Lilly Boswell ended the period's scoring with her first goal of the season.
Second Quarter – James Madison 8, Towson 6
After the Dukes tied things early, Towson pushed ahead with goals 1:14 apart. However, JMU would outscore the Tigers 4-0 the rest of the way, with Peterson scoring a hat trick in the quarter alone. The Dukes converted on both eight-meter opportunities during the quarter.
Third Quarter – James Madison 12, Towson 6
Peterson added another two tallies and the Dukes scored on all four of their shots in the period. JMU shut out their opponent in a quarter for the fifth time this season. Towson was held to just one shot throughout the entire quarter.

- After taking a 6-4 lead, Towson was held off the scoreboard for nearly 35 minutes between the second and fourth quarters, allowing JMU to register its 10-goal run.
