Dukes Fall to Notre Dame on First Day of Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, VA. – James Madison softball took an early lead on Friday night, but fell to a late Notre Dame rally on the first day of the Liberty Softball Invitational.
The Fighting Irish improved to 13-3 on the season while the Dukes fell to 3-6.
The Dukes put the first runs on the board in the top of the third, when Hannah Shifflett hit a two-run home run to left field, driving in Morgan Mesaros.
Notre Dame was unable to respond until the bottom of the fifth when a runner came home on a wild pitch. The Irish kept the momentum into the sixth, hitting a two-RBI double and a two-run homer to take a 5-2 lead. JMU was unable to come back in the seventh.
Alissa Humphrey tallied eight strikeouts and only three walks over six innings.

The Dukes will take on Rutgers (10 a.m.) and Lehigh (12 p.m.) on the second day of the Liberty Softball Invitational.
