HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 11 James Madison lacrosse put up a season-high 22 goals en route to its seventh straight victory, defeating in-state foe Liberty 22-3 on Wednesday evening at Sentara Park.
JMU improved to 10-4 on the season, while Liberty dropped to 8-6.

The 22 goals were tied for the fifth-most goals in JMU single-season history and marked the 10th time JMU had reached 22 or more goals.

The Dukes were led by redshirt sophomore
Isabella Peterson who scored five goals, marking the fifth time in the past six games Peterson has put up at least five tallies. Twelve different Dukes found the back of the net, including senior
Emma Greenhill, who scored her first two goals of the season. Peterson and redshirt junior
Rachel Matey combined for 14 of JMU's season-high 21 draw controls, as JMU outdrew the Flames 21-7.

The Dukes have combined to outscore their last two opponents 40-5, the largest margin in a two-game stretch since outscoring Wofford and George Washington 44-8 in March 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – James Madison 9, Liberty 0
The Dukes dominated in the draw circle and on the scoresheet, with a 9-1 draw control margin accompanying the nine-goal quarter. The nine goals were the most in a quarter this season, as seven different Dukes found the back of the net.
Second Quarter – James Madison 14, Liberty 2
After Liberty got on the board, JMU netted three goals in 2:40 to take a 12-1 lead. Greenhill capped off the scoring with a goal with just one second to play. The Dukes reached their most scores in a half this season, breaking the previous high of 13, set last Saturday against Elon.
Third Quarter – James Madison 17, Liberty 3
The Dukes went 5-0 on the draw in the quarter and extended their lead even further. Redshirt junior
Kat Buchanan entered the game and made three saves in the period.

Fourth Quarter – James Madison 22, Liberty 3
JMU scored on each of their five shots in the final quarter. A couple of career firsts happened, as freshman goalkeeper
Adanya Moyer made her first career save and junior
Sophia Macchia grabbed her first career draw control.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- JMU held a 35-19 shot advantage and has held consecutive opponents below 20 total shots for the first time since March 12 and 16, 2021.
- Tonight marked the first time at least a dozen Dukes found the back of the net since 14 did so on March 16, 2021 versus George Washington.
- JMU's 21 draw controls were the most since April 23, 2021 against William and Mary.
- The Dukes committed just nine turnovers for the third straight game, the first time JMU has committed fewer than 10 three straight times since doing so in a three-game span in May 2015.
- Liberty was the second opponent JMU has shut out in multiple quarters this year (Elon) and the Dukes are 7-0 when shutting out an opponent in a quarter.
- Redshirt senior Katie Checkosky had three of JMU's 10 assists, and is the first Duke since Monica Zabel in 2012 with three consecutive games of at least three helpers.
- Redshirt senior Kacey Knobloch took seven shots to lead JMU and has fired 23 of her 59 shots in the past three games.

- Matey moved into a tie for fourth in single-season draw controls, tying Elena Romesburg, who had 76 draws in 2018.
