MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Sophomore catcher
Lauren Bernett recorded 10 RBIs to lead James Madison softball to a doubleheader sweep, beating the College of Charleston 8-2 and 11-2 on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point.

The Dukes (18-21, 7-5 CAA) recorded 21 hits and only allowed 14 hits to the Cougars (9-30, 3-8 CAA).

Bernett was hot from the plate, going 6-for-7 with a pair of home runs and four runs scored. The Dukes hit three homers in the sweep, with
Kayla Boseman hitting a dinger in game one.

GAME 1: JMU 8, College of Charleston 2
Bernett recorded three of the Dukes' seven hits and batted in three runners in game one.

Boseman got the Dukes on the board in the top of the first with a three-run homer to left field. Bernett and Boseman followed that up in the third with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly, respectively.

Charleston responded in the bottom of the sixth with a set of runs, but
Hannah Shifflett and Bernett secured the win for JMU in the top of the seventh with a pair of RBIs.

Alexis Bermudez pitched all seven innings and struck out four batters to earn the win in the circle.

GAME 2: JMU 11, College of Charleston 2
In the second game, Bernett tied a school record with seven RBI's as she recorded two home runs.

Bernett and Rogers started things off for JMU, putting the Dukes up 3-0 in the top of the first.Â
The Cougars recorded a run of their own in the bottom of the first, but the Dukes maintained their lead in the top the second.

Shifflett tallied her second RBI of the day, followed by a three-run homer from Bernett to take the Dukes up 7-1. Charleston notched another run in the bottom of the second, but it was not enough to come back.

Bernett then gave JMU a 9-2 lead in the fourth inning with her second homer of the day. The Dukes then added to their lead, as
Jasmine Hall hit a two-run double in the fifth for an 11-2 lead. The Cougars were unable to respond in the bottom of the fifth and the Dukes earned a run-rule win to take the series.

The Dukes will stay on the road and travel to Drexel April 23 and 24 for another conference series. All three games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
