HARRISONBURG, Va. — James Madison baseball went down early and weren't able to come back as they fell to Elon in the series finale, 10-2, on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.Â

The Dukes drop to 16-11, 4-2 while the Phoenix moves to 14-13, 2-4.Â

Ryan Murphy started and went 2.2 innings, striking out one along the way while giving up three runs, two earned. At the plate, redshirt junior
Trevon Dabney led the team by going 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two doubles.

How It Happened
Elon came out strong, taking a 1-0 lead in the first for their first lead of the series. They then scored a pair in the second to increase the lead to three. The offense of the Phoenix continued, scoring a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and then three in the seventh for a 9-0 lead.

The JMU offense was able to get on the board in the seventh to break Elon's run. Freshman
Ryan Dooley pinched hit with one out and hit his fifth double of the season. He then came home two batters later when Dabney hit his second double of the game to make it 9-1. The Dukes had a two-out rally going in the eighth inning, as redshirt junior
Carson Bell drew a walk and was followed by classmate
Travis Reifsnider hitting a pinch hit single. Redshirt sophomore
Jacob Steinberg then laced a single into left to score Bell and give JMU its second run of the game.

Elon added a run in the ninth off a single to earn the 10-2 victory. Starter Shea Sprague earned the win behind six shutout innings and six strikeouts.

The Dukes are on the road for the next four games, beginning with a 6 p.m. showdown at VMI on Wednesday, April 6. They then travel to College of Charleston for a three-game set April 8-10.
