BALTIMORE – James Madison lacrosse began their seventh straight run in the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 14-7 win over No. 20 UConn at Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore on Friday.
No. 10 JMU won its 11th straight game overall and improved to 14-4 while UConn finished its season at 13-5.
JMU was led by a career defensive day from redshirt junior
Mairead Durkin. Durkin broke a program record with eight caused turnovers and also set a career high with seven ground balls in Friday's win. Redshirt sophomore

Since 2015, JMU is 7-5 in NCAA Tournament games and has won at least one game in four of its last five tournament appearances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – James Madison 4, UConn 1
With the score tied 1-1, JMU scored three times in 2:44 to grab a 4-1 lead, carrying that advantage through the end of the quarter. Dougherty made three saves to help build the lead.
Second Quarter – James Madison 8, UConn 3

Third Quarter – James Madison 10, UConn 5
UConn grabbed the first two goals of the quarter before JMU restored the five-goal lead at the end of the period. The Dukes were a perfect 6-for-6 in the quarter in clears.
Fourth Quarter – James Madison 14, UConn 7
Marchetti scored two goals as the Dukes scored four of the last five to pull away and close out the win. The Dukes outshot the Huskies 8-2 in the quarter as UConn committed nine turnovers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Dukes caused 18 turnovers, the most they have forced in a game since March 16, 2019. UConn's 24 turnovers committed was its most since April 11 of last season.
- JMU had 20 ground balls, scooping 20 or more for just the second time this season.
- The Dukes' defense held UConn to 0-for-7 from the free-position in the first half.
- The first seven goals of the game all came from different JMU sticks.
- JMU assisted on eight of its 14 goals and have assisted on at least 50% of its goals in seven of the last nine games.
- Marchetti has now scored 13 goals in her last four games, accounting for nearly half of her 30 goals this season. She has also scored multiple goals in eight consecutive games.
RECORD WATCH
- Not only did Durkin's eight caused turnovers set a single-game program record, but they gave her 50 caused turnovers for the season, breaking Haley Warden's 2017 record.
- Redshirt sophomore Isabella Peterson netted a pair of goals to become the third player in program history to reach 70 in a season.
- As a team, JMU moved to third all-time with 126 assists on the season.
