COLLEGE PARK, Md. – James Madison baseball stayed within striking distance of 15
th-ranked Maryland through the early innings, but ultimately fell 12-2 on Tuesday evening at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Stadium.
The Dukes dropped their fourth straight and move to 26-24, while the Terps are now 42-10 and tie their program record for wins in a season.
Redshirt sophomore
CJ Czerwinski started and went 3.1 innings, allowing five runs and tying his career-high in strikeouts with five. Freshman
Ryan Dooley led the team at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI's.
How It Happened
Maryland put the first run of the game on the board in the first inning, before Czerwinski settled into a groove by sending down the next seven batters he faced. The Terps broke that streak with back-to-back home runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.
The Dukes used their own long ball to inch closer, as redshirt sophomore
Mason Dunaway led off the fourth with a single ahead of Dooley's third home run of the season to make it 3-2.
Another home run by Maryland pushed the lead back to three in the fourth at 5-2. From there, the bats of the hosts got hot, scoring seven additional runs in the remaining four innings. That stretch of unanswered runs included a five-run sixth inning to preserve the 12-2 victory
Logan Ott earned the win for Maryland with five scoreless innings of relief.
Game Notes
- Mason Dunaway extended his hit streak to five games, with three of those games being multiple hits. He is 9-for-18 in those five games with four runs scored and six RBI's.
