HARRISONBURG, Va. – Guard Brycen Blaine has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the James Madison men's basketball team for the 2022-23 season, Head Coach
Mark Byington announced on Thursday morning.
Â
Blaine returns to Virginia, where he formerly starred for L.C. Bird High School in Chesterfield, after an outstanding senior season at Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Ga.
Â
He averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 2021-22 on his way to Second Team All-State and First Team All-Region honors, leading the Patriots to a Region 7A Championship and a spot in the state title game.
Â
"Brycen is a great late addition to our basketball team and he will have a really successful career at JMU," Byington said. "The first two things that stick out with him are his competitiveness and his toughness - he just has an edge that he plays with at all times. He's a 6-5 combo guard that can do a lot of the things that help you win basketball games."
Â
This spring also saw Blaine excel on the AAU circuit, averaging 20.5 points per contest with Team Huncho on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, good for the fourth-highest scoring average in the nationally-renowned AAU league.
Â
Blaine joins
guard Xavier Brown and
forward Jerell Roberson as incoming freshmen with the Dukes in 2022-23, coming to Harrisonburg alongside a pair of transfers in
forward Mezie Offurum and
guard Noah Friedel.
