HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison lacrosse has unveiled its 16-game schedule for the 2024 season, Head Coach Shelley Klaes announced on Friday.
Â
JMU is set to play seven games at home and eight on the road, along with one neutral-site contest.
Â
The schedule features seven matchups against teams that reached the 2023 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, including a quarterfinalist. Additionally, eight 2024 opponents finished in the top 10 of the ILWomen/IWLCA Poll at the end of the 2023 season.
Â
"What a great schedule we have in 2024," Klaes said. "We can't take any team lightly as the talent is tremendous. We have a great home slate to start the season off and get our Dukes fans out to Sentara Park in February. We have a familiar foe in our former CAA rival, Towson, and we are proud that more than half our opponents competed in the NCAA Tournament last year. We will be battle-tested by the time our conference matches arrive. I look forward to seeing this group of women compete in 2024!"
The Dukes will open the season with ACC foes North Carolina (Feb. 10) and Virginia Tech (Feb. 14), as consistent with the schedule from prior seasons. JMU will then travel to the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. for a neutral-site matchup against UConn (Feb. 17). February play will finish at home with matchups against Towson (Feb. 22) and Albany (Feb. 25).
Â
March will be spent mainly on the road, as only one of six matchups will be played at Sentara Park. JMU opens the month by traveling to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman (March 2), then to College Park, Md. for a massive showdown with BIG-10 foe Maryland (March 10).
Â
American Athletic Conference play will begin the following week when the Dukes return home to face off against East Carolina (March 16). From there, JMU hit the road to take on in-state rival Virginia (March 20), AAC foe Cincinnati (March 23) and Johns Hopkins (March 30).Â
Â
The April slate will kick off with a contest at Richmond (April 3). The final four games of the regular season are AAC matchups, with two at home and two on the road. The Dukes will take on Temple at home (April 6), Florida in Gainesville (April 13) and Vanderbilt at home for Senior Day (April 20), before making their way to Norfolk to close out the regular season at Old Dominion (April 27).
The 2024 American Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held May 2-4 at Vanderbilt in Nashville.
