SPARKS, Md. – Head Coach
Shelley Klaes won her 200th game leading the James Madison lacrosse program, as the Dukes pulled out an 11-7 neutral-site victory over UConn at Tierney Field Saturday afternoon.

The victory also marked the 250th overall of Klaes' collegiate head coaching career, where she is in her 22nd season.
The Dukes improved to a winning record at 2-1 while UConn dropped to 1-1.

Senior
Tai Jankowski scored a career-high four goals as she peppered the UConn net with nine shots on goal. Freshman
Maddie Epke and redshirt junior
Taylor Marchetti each added two of their own.

On defense, the Dukes caused 16 turnovers, three each from
Mairead Durkin and
Nicholle Marshall while
Isabella Peterson,
Maggie Clark and
Carolyn Thistlewaite each added two. The Dukes caused 16 turnovers to UConn's 10.

For UConn, Grace Coon and Morgan Carter each scored twice. Despite the losing effort, goalkeeper Landyn White made 18 saves on a .621 save percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – James Madison 2, UConn 2
Jankowski supplied both tallies for the Dukes as JMU took two separate one-goal leads, but Coon's tally with 44 seconds to play evened the score.
Second Quarter – James Madison 4, UConn 2
JMU out-shot UConn 10-3 including 8-2 in shots on goal in the period. Goals for Marchetti and Jankowski put the Dukes in front, as goalkeeper
Kat Buchanan stopped both shots she faced.
Third Quarter – James Madison 6, UConn 4
The two sides traded goals with UConn providing the final score with 5:28 left in the quarter. The Dukes added six more shots on goal in the period.

Fourth Quarter – James Madison 11, UConn 7
The Dukes scored five times in 6:34 to extend their lead to 11-4, their biggest of the season. UConn supplied three tallies of their own to close the scoring. JMU had six draw controls to UConn's three.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- JMU dominated the shot clock, out-shooting the Huskies 39-19.
- UConn's scoreless second quarter was the second consecutive game JMU held an opponent scoreless in a quarter. Dating back to last season, JMU is 9-0 when holding opponents scoreless in at least one quarter.
- Saturday was the first game since March 12, 2021 against Wofford that five JMU players had multiple caused turnovers in the same game.
- The Dukes committed just 11 turnovers on the afternoon and had fewer turnovers than UConn in every quarter.
- Six different Dukes scored goals for the second straight game.
