INDIANAPOLIS – James Madison track & field will be represented by freshman sprinter
Asia Powell at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships this summer. The national meet is set to take place in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field from July 6-8.
"Asia has had an amazing freshman year on the track and in the classroom," said Director
Delethea Quarles. "This is one of the highest honors to qualify for the USATF U20 meet -- having an opportunity to contest with the top athletes in the United States is one we are proud of. It's another great day to be a Duke!"
Â
Powell qualified for the meet after exceeding the qualifying standard of 11.80 in the 100-meter dash. Earlier this season at the Raleigh Relays, the Suffolk, Va. native set the school record in the event with a time of 11.50 for fourth overall in the competition.
Â
In addition to her program record, the freshman is tied for second in the 60-meter dash (7.51), fourth in the indoor 200-meter dash (24.76), and tied for seventh in the outdoor 200-meter dash (24.38), while also being a member of the fourth-fastest 4x100-meter relay team in school history (45.85).

The Dukes saw
Jordyn Henderson partake in the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships last year in the 100-meter hurdles. Henderson finished ninth in the first round with her time of 13.95, just one spot shy from moving on to the finals for the event.
The first round of the U20 women's 100-meter dash is scheduled for 1:44 p.m. PT (4:44 p.m. ET) on Thursday, July 7th. The final takes place later that day at 4:16 p.m. PT (7:16 p.m. ET).
