ORLANDO, Fla. – The James Madison cheerleading squad advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 Universal Cheerleaders Association College Nationals in Orlando, Fla., which took place Jan. 13-15.
Â
The Dukes placed 15th out of 21 teams in the Division IA Game Day category. The squad received zero deductions to their score from the judges and increased their score by five points from last year's UCA College Nationals routine.
Â
This year was only JMU's second year competing in the Division IA Game Day category.Â

"The experience was one to remember," Head Coach
Payton Young said. "I am incredibly proud of this team and their resilience, determination and perseverance throughout all the changes in the past month. It shows just how hard-working and dedicated they are to their teammates and this program. They are hungry to win and it shows in everything they do. We were in the hardest game day division and went up against extremely talented Power 5 teams in our second year in the division. For us to come away with zero deductions, in 15th place, and five points higher than last year, I believe this program is just getting started."

The University of Tennessee was awarded first place in the division.
