How It Happened
First Inning
JMU pushed three runs across without recording a hit, putting five runners on base from a hit by pitch, two walks and two errors. A fielding error allowed the first run to score, as the Dukes went up 3-0 from a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Â
Fourth Inning
Freshman
Kyle Langley and Schiavone began the inning with back-to-back singles and both came around to score on Trimble's single two batters later for a 5-0 lead.
Â
Sixth Inning
Back-to-back singles were aided by a two-base fielding error in the outfield that allowed Texas State to have its first runner touch third base and score its first run of the game to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Â
Schiavone led off the home half of the inning with his sixth homer of the season and JMU's 23
rd solo blast of the year for a 6-1 lead. Trimble tripled three batters later and scored the next at bat on a double from classmate
Ryan Dooley to increase the lead to 7-1.
Â
Seventh Inning
Texas State scratched four runs across, loading the bases with no outs and using a single and a bases clearing double to inch closer to the Dukes at 7-5.
