HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison softball clubbed four home runs in a 12-6 triumph over Sun Belt foe Georgia State on Thursday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes improved to 19-13 (3-4 Sun Belt) with the win, finishing with 12 runs on 11 hits and one error. Georgia State fell to 9-22 and 1-6 against league competition on six runs, eight hits, and two errors.
JMU had four players hit home runs along with seven different starters collecting hits.
KK Mathis finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs, her ninth game with multiple runs batted in.
Alissa Humphrey, who entered in the fourth inning with the game tied 5-5, pitched 4.0 innings of relief, striking out five and picking up her eighth win of 2024.
Along with Mathis, Sophomore
Bella Henzler went 2-for-3 with her seventh home run of the year, while
Payton List finished 2-for-4 and launched her third long ball of the season while starting in the circle for the ninth time.
Lexi Rogers made her third start of the season and clubbed her first home run, finishing 1-for-1 with two walks.

Reed Butler pushed her hitting streak to 12 as the graduate student went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
How It Happened
- Georgia State pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI single and a wild pitch.
- A throwing error from the Panthers allowed JMU to bring a run across and cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
- Another wild pitch from the Dukes brought home another run for Georgia State in the top of the second, extending the visitors' lead to 3-1.
- List launched her third home run of the season in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 3-3.
- Georgia State took back a 5-3 lead in the top of the third on a two-run homer off the bat of Chloe Nadler, who hit two home runs in the contest.
- In a back-and-forth game, Mathis launched a home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 5-5.
- Another throwing error from GSU plated another run for the Dukes, giving the home team a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- Henzler cushioned JMU's lead to 8-5 on a no-doubt home run in the fourth.
- Rogers blasted the Dukes' fourth two-run home run of the day in the bottom of the fifth, doubling up Georgia State 10-5.
- Nadler hit her second home run of the day to trim the JMU lead to 10-6 in the top of the sixth.
- Butler singled to center to bring home Jasmine Hall in the bottom of the sixth, and a bases-loaded walk from Madison Edwards gave the Dukes a 12-6 lead.
- Humphrey struck out two batters in the top of the seventh to give JMU the series-opening win.
