MOBILE, Ala. – James Madison baseball took an early 3-0 lead but South Alabama scored in five straight innings to down the Dukes, 10-7, on Sunday afternoon at Stanky Field in the series finale.
The Dukes dropped to 25-18 overall and 11-10 in the Sun Belt Conference, while the Jaguars improved to 25-18 (10-11 Sun Belt).
Leading JMU at the plate, sophomore
Mike Mancini went 3-for-5 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBI's. Junior Todd Mozozki received a no-decision after starting on the mound and going 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and four runs surrendered.

First Inning
JMU took a 2-0 lead three batters into the game as junior
Fenwick Trimble singled before Mancini hit his eighth homer of the year.
Third Inning
Trimble hit the 20
th leadoff homer this season by a JMU hitter, as his 10
th long ball of the season pushed the lead to 3-0.
South Alabama put four runs on the board on four singles and a double to take a 4-3 lead.
Fourth Inning
USA pushed the lead to two runs with a solo home run to make the score 5-3.
Fifth Inning
A single from Mancini and a double off the bat of sophomore
Wyatt Peifer tied the game at five, as each hit plated a run.
The Jaguars responded with three runs to regain the lead in the home half of the fifth. Back-to-back singles and a fielder's choice made the score 8-5.
Sixth Inning
The Dukes took a run back on a sacrifice fly from Trimble to cut the deficit to two at 8-6.
A second solo shot of the game for the Jaguars gave the hosts a three-run lead back and made it 9-6.
Seventh Inning
South Alabama hit 10 runs, the fifth time in the six games during the all-time series that a team has scored double-digit runs, with a single to increase the score to 10-6.
Ninth Inning
Mancini singled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and an error and then scored to make it 10-7 on a second wild pitch.
Game Notes
- Fenwick Trimble has now homered in three straight games and has hit a home run in six of the last nine games.
- The last time JMU has had three 10-homer hitters was in 2010.
- For the first time since 2002, the Dukes have five hitters with at least eight home runs this season. The 2002 JMU team had six hitters hit at least eight long balls.
- Of the 64 home runs hit this season by JMU, 45 have been solo shots.
