IRVING, Tx. – James Madison lacrosse attacker Olivia Matthews, defender Olivia Rongo, and midfielder Jolie Schiavo have been named American Conference Attack Player, Defensive Player, and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday.
The recognition marks JMU's second round of weekly awards this season. Matthews secures her first weekly award of the season and the second of her career after being recognized once in 2025. Rongo and Schiavo both bring home the first Player of the Week awards of their career. Additionally, goalkeeper Abigail Beattie was selected as an honorable mention for the second time this season
Matthews, a sophomore, scored a goal and tallied a ground ball against Liberty, helping the Dukes grab a 16-4 win for their first road victory of the season. In JMU's American Conference opener against East Carolina, Matthews scored a career-high five goals, adding two assists, a caused turnover, and four draw controls as JMU beat the Pirates 16-10 to win their fourth straight American opener.
Rongo, a senior, caused five turnovers and corralled four ground balls in JMU's 16-4 rout of Liberty on Wednesday afternoon. Against ECU Saturday, Rongo tallied four ground balls and forced three turnovers to help the Dukes grab a 16-10 victory to win back-to-back games for the second time this season. The Westhampton, N.Y. native has caused at least three turnovers in five consecutive games, as her 3.13 caused turnovers per game lead the American and rank seventh in the country.
Schiavo scored a goal, logged an assist, grabbed a ground ball, and caused a turnover during JMU's 16-4 victory over the Liberty Flames. Against ECU, Schiavo scored a career-high two goals and gathered a ground ball to help JMU grab its first conference victory of 2026 with a 16-10 win over the Pirates.
The Dukes resume American Conference action in Tampa this weekend, where they will take on the USF Bulls on Saturday, March 21. First draw is scheduled for noon and will be streamed on ESPN+.
