Personal: Meghan Bain. JMU sophomore field hockey players Ashley, Lauren and Melissa Walls are her first cousins. Bain's mother, Debbie, and the Walls' mother, Dorothy, are twin sisters. Her high school coach, Danyle Hefferman Heilig (JMU '95), played on JMU's 1994 NCAA champion field hockey team, is co-holder of JMU's career assist record (36), was a two-time JMU lacrosse All-America and ranks among JMU's all-time lacrosse scorers.
Getting to know Meghan...
Why did you choose JMU?
It’s a great campus and I fell in love with the team and coaching staff. The idea of going to a college far from home was really hard for me at first but with my cousins being here, it made the transition much easier.
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I chose sports management because I want to pursue a career that works closely with sports teams and athletes.
What do you enjoy most about JMU field hockey?
The competition and being with the team.
What are your goals for this year?
To win the NCAA tournament.
What is your favorite pre-game music or ritual?
When each of us joins hands and steps over the line as one at the beginning of each game.

Who motivates you and why?
The coaches and each one of my teammates motivate me by pushing me to always try my hardest and to do my best to help us work towards achieving our team goals.
What influenced you to play field hockey?
My parents, being athletes themselves, have been a great influence in my field hockey career, and my mother played at the same high school.
Do you have a nickname within the team?
Some call me Meems.
What other hobbies and/or activities do you enjoy?
Hanging out with friends, and participating in other extra-curricular activities including soccer and lacrosse
