Sean Martin joined the Dukes' staff as a full-time assistant coach in June 2010 after serving as a part-time assistant with the JMU program for the 2009 fall season.
JMU's teams have been nationally ranked in all three of his previous JMU seasons (2009-11), and he has coached two JMU players who have gone on to play professionally, including 2011 Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year CJ Sapong.
The 2009 JMU graduate is head coach for the Under-19 Boys Blue team of the Skyline Soccer League, and in 2008 he was an assistant for the Bridgewater College men's team.
Martin was also an assistant coach at Harrisonburg High School from 2008-10. The Blue Streaks advanced to the state tournament quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010.
Martin was a member of the JMU men's soccer team for three seasons, including the 2004 and 2005 Dukes' teams that were nationally ranked and the 2005 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
He was a four-year starter for Harrisonburg High School's team from 2000-03. At Harrisonburg he was a team captain as a junior and senior and earned all-state and all-region honors as a senior and all-district recognition as a junior and senior.
He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from JMU in 2007 and a master's degree in sport and recreation leadership from JMU in 2009. Martin received an advanced regional diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2009.
