Men's Tennis Falls 4-3 at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va., April 2, 2013 – The James Madison men's tennis dropped its second straight conference match, falling 4-3 at George Mason on Tuesday afternoon. The Dukes split the singles matches 3-3 with the Patriots, but Mason held the advantage with the doubles point.

JMU dropped to 2-2 in Colonial Athletic Association contests and 5-9 overall while George Mason improved to 2-1 in league play and 11-5 overall.

Mason claimed two of three doubles victories to take the 1-0 edge heading into singles play. Seniors Bastien Russo (Lyon, France/Notre Dame des Minimes (Shorter)) and Greg Vladimirsky (Staten Island, N.Y./Broward Virtual) had the lone doubles win, taking down Jordan Dyke and Christopher Borden 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. The pair snapped a two-match losing streak and is now 2-2 this spring.

Vladimirsky also won at No. 3 singles, defeating Tanner Baine in two sets (6-0, 6-4) to put a point on the board for the Dukes. He has won two straight singles matches and is now 6-8 this spring.

Senior Ryan Pool (Melbourne, Australia/Braemar (Chattanooga)) tallied a win for JMU on Tuesday at No. 1 singles as he dispatched Dyke 6-2, 6-0. He won his second straight match to push his season record to 9-5 and is 4-0 when battling CAA foes.

Freshman Robert Stirling (Caboolture, Australia/St. Columbans College) rounded out the scoring for the Dukes with a two-set win (6-4, 6-4) over Scott Keaton at No. 4 singles. He is now 8-6 in his first collegiate spring, including 6-3 at the No. 4 singles position.

The Dukes play at home Wednesday, April 3 against Radford. Doubles play gets underway at 3 p.m.
