PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - The No. 13 James Madison lacrosse team rebounded from a defeat earlier in the weekend by scoring the first seven goals of the match in a solid team effort to earn a 17-9 win at Drexel in Colonial Athletic Association action, April 5. With the victory, the Dukes improved to 9-4 and 1-1 in CAA play, while the Dragons fell to 3-9 and 0-2 in the league.

JMU outshot Drexel 28-22 and dominated in draw controls 17-11. The Dukes were also 14-for-14 on clears, while the Dragons were forced to go just 11-for-17 on their attempts.Â
Junior midfielder Jaci Gordon led the Madison effort with four goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielder Leah Monticello and redshirt-sophomore attacker Betsy Angel each tallied three scores. In all, the Dukes had seven players in the scoring column on the afternoon.
Drexel had three players, Lacey Aghazarian, Emily Duffey and Nadia Pelham-Lacey, that scored twice each.
Madison got things rolling early as junior midfielder Taylor Gress scored on a dish from Gordon to put the visiting team up 1-0 less than a minute and a half into the game, and then Gordon scored 24 seconds later to make it 2-0. That got the Dukes rolling as they then added five unaswered goals, including a pair by Gordon and two by freshman midfielder Haley Warden, to go up 7-0 with just under 17 minutes to play in the period.Â
Drexel came back with four straight goals over a 2:41 span to cut the lead to 7-4, but the Dukes then scored three consecutive tallies in 1:02 to extend the lead back to 10-4 with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Dragons were able to get it back to 10-6 before giving up a late goal to JMU to make it 11-6 at the intermission.
The two teams exchanged a pair of goals during the first 13 minutes of the final period. However, JMU put it away with three goals in a span of just 23 seconds, as Angel got two of her goals in that span, to make it 16-8 with 9:22 to go.
Madison will return home for its next three matches at home, beginning with CAA-newcomer Elon, Friday, April 10. First draw at University Park is scheduled for 7 p.m., and admission is free to the match.
