BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior
Carol Strock ran the third-fastest 6K time in James Madison cross country history to lead the Dukes to a 15th-place team finish in the Women's Gold Race at the Paul Short Run on Saturday morning.
Strock completed the course in 20:27, almost a half-minute faster than her previous personal record (20:53.8), to finish in 14th out of 405 runners.
The Dukes finished in 15th out of 45 teams on the strength of two more top-100 finishes from junior
Nora Raher (21:14) and sophomore
Olivia Viparina (21:25), who came in 83rd and 99th, respectively.
Senior
Tessa Mundell (111th – 21:31) and junior
Nicole Goff (172nd – 21:55) rounded out JMU's scoring. In addition to the scoring times, JMU had two more runners place in the top 200. Sophomore
Erica Jackson placed 187th in 22:03 and freshman
Caitlin Swanson took 192nd in 22:06.
Earlier in the morning, seven Dukes ran in the women's Open Race, highlighted by sophomore
Micaela Poggi in 59th out of 404 runners in 22:32. Junior
Angelique DeMeo set a new personal record in the 6K, finishing in 76th with a time of 22:50.
Yale won the women's team race with a total of 92 points. Georgetown (2nd, 119), Penn (T-3rd, 127), West Virginia (T-3rd, 127) and Florida (5th, 175) completed the top five. JMU finished with 479 points, better than 30 teams. Villanova's Angel Piccirillo was the fastest individual, finishing in 19:57.
