Duke Club Week - Where Does the Money Go?

At our core, the Duke Club is charged with raising funds to provide an education for student-athletes at James Madison. This ensures that our student-athletes have career-specific skills to carry forward after their playing days are complete. As many parents know, providing for education can be expensive. Many student-athletes are fortunate enough to receive financial relief for their education but the relief isn't free. Each year, the Duke Club strives to provide the funding for the NCAA maximum number of scholarships permitted for each of JMU's 18 sports programs, a scholarship bill that reaches nearly $8 million dollars for the 2016-17 academic year.

We have made strides in being able to provide the educational funding needed. In 2015, our thousands of incredible donors stepped up to the plate, exceeding $2 million dollars raised for the annual fund for the first time in school history. Those funds are used directly to support scholarships, team operating budgets, facility enhancements and cost of attendance stipends for men's and women's basketball.Â

We are elated to have reached this milestone, but a gap still exists of nearly $6 million! Our growth over the last five years gives us hope that our fans will help us accomplish the ultimate goal of being able to provide for the full scholarship bill and the other operational needs for JMU Athletics. The passion of our fans gets stronger every day and we know their zeal will get us to this goal. Along with working tirelessly towards our scholarship goals, we are also raising funds towards other athletic needs such as a new Convocation Center, endowments and our teams. There is a way for everyone to find their athletic passion.

Our young men and women may not know your name, but because of your donations, you have forever impacted their lives and provided them with the opportunity of their dreams. With your help, we have reached new milestones and look forward to raising the bar and accomplishing new goals each year.
