HARRISONBURG, Va. - Incoming freshman guard
Matthew Urbach has joined the James Madison men's basketball program for the 2018-19 campaign, as announced by Head Coach
Louis Rowe on Monday afternoon.
Â
Urbach, who shined at W.T. Woodson in Fairfax, Va. the last two seasons under Head Coach Doug Craig, led his alma mater to the Class 6A State Championship as a junior, averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds across 31 games.
Â
"Matt is a great fit for the program we're building at JMU," Rowe said. "He's a strong shooting guard who moves really well on the court with or without the ball and has a really high basketball IQ. Off the court, he's an outstanding kid who puts the team first; we're excited for him to join our family."
Â
The Fairfax native raised his game as a senior, averaging 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per contest in his final prep season. Urbach had at least one three-pointer in all but three games, including six in a 31-point eruption against Fairfax on Jan. 19.
Â
The Dukes, who signedÂ
guard Deshon Parker during the fall's early signing period and both
guard Jonathan Hicklin and
forward Devon Flowers earlier this spring, return four starters and all but two letterwinners from the 2017-18 campaign, bringing back junior guardÂ
Stuckey Mosley, a Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, and freshmenÂ
Darius Banks andÂ
Matt Lewis, who were each named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
