LYNCHBURG, Va. - James Madison swimming closed out its fall season with a fifth-place finish on Sunday evening, as the Dukes wrapped up the final day of competition at the TYR '85 Invitational, hosted by Liberty University.
The JMU swimmers kept their hold on fifth at the nine-team competition, finishing just 35.5 points behind fourth-place Marshall after racking up 411 points on the final evening for a final total of 1,204.5. JMU did not include its divers in the three-day meet.
MEET NOTES
- Juniors
Julianna Jones (16:59.98) and
Bailey Butler (17:01.28) and senior
Kristie Darmody (17:10.24) opened the evening in strong fashion, capturing third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 1650 freestyle.
- Senior
Bonnie Zhang grabbed a bronze medal in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.78, while freshman
Isabel Anbar posted a 2:01.13 to finish sixth.
- Junior
Mack Lawson clocked a 2:21.44 in the 200 breaststroke to take home eighth place.
- Sophomore
Morgan Whaley took third in the 200 butterfly with a 2:01.72.
- Zhang, sophomore
Jillian Santiago, senior
Sydney Kirsch and freshman
Karen Siddoway capped the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 freestyle relay, touching in 3:25.27.

"This weekend was an opportunity to get a lot of racing done with tired bodies from hard training. The format of this meet is the same as our CAA championships in February and, overall, our team did a great job applying their efforts from practice into racing situations. They hopefully learned and continued to move forward, progressing toward championships.

The Dukes have closed the fall portion of their 2019-20 schedule and will be back in action on Jan. 4, 2020, when they travel to Miami, Fla. to take part in the FIU Sprint Invite.
