ELON, N.C. – James Madison men's tennis defeated the College of Charleston, 4-2, in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championship at the Burlington Tennis Center on Thursday morning.

The Dukes improve to 17-7 and continue their season with a trip to the CAA semifinals while the Cougars finish their 2019 campaign at 18-5. This is the first time taking a trip to the CAA semifinals since the 2013-14 season while the Dukes 17 wins is the most since 1982-83 when JMU went 23-6.

DOUBLES
Sophomore
Gonzalo Adis and freshman
William Karpinski earned the first win of the day, taking down Charleston 6-2 on court three. The Dukes clinched the doubles point on court one with senior
Pierre Kohler and
Alvaro Arce winning 6-2.

With the win on one, Kohler and Arce earned their ninth doubles win of the season while extending their win streak to three straight matches. Adis and Karpinski garnered their seventh doubles win of 2019.

SINGLES
Heading into singles with a 1-0 advantage, Arce cruised past Charleston's Easton Thomas on court two with a 6-0 sweep in both sets to improve to a three-match win streak. At No. 3 singles, junior
Paul Mendoza topped Ben Cawston with 6-2, 6-4 victories to secure his 14th win at court three this season.

Damon Roberts on court three to put the Cougars on the board at 3-1. On court six, junior
Tate Steinour dominated the first set with a 6-1 win. Set two was a battle, but Steinour clinched the match for JMU with a 7-5 tiebreak triumph.Â
