WILMINGTON, Del. – James Madison visited the Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 4-3 decision at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
The Dukes fell to 4-4 on the season, while the Blue Hens improved to 8-1. JMU notched the doubles point and two triumphs in singles play in the loss.
JMU started the match strong, winning every doubles match. The tandem of junior
Gonzalo Adis and sophomore
William Karpinski kicked off the match with a win on court three over Delaware's Nathan Benyowitz and Luis Molina, 6-1.
Junior
Alvaro Arce and senior
Josh Raymundo followed with a victory on court two, taking down Justice Jones and Guilherme Valdoleiros, 7-5. Senior
Paul Mendoza and freshman
Holden Koons closed out doubles play with a 7-6 (5) win over James Wilkinson and Liam Hedlund on court one.
In singles play, Koons earned a 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2 victory against Valdoleiros, advancing his singles victory streak to five. Sophomore
Stefan Petrovic also rallied against Jones and forced a third set, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Adis won his tiebreaker in the second set before dropping a three-set decision, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
