CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. -- Six James Madison swimmers traveled to Christiansburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational on Feb. 7-9. Multiple Dukes broke their personal season records at the Invitational.Â
Day 1
Lauren Soleo placed eighth in the 500 freestyle final with a time of 5:13.19.
Bailey Dopfel finished 10th in the 500 freestyle finals with a time of 5:25.72, shaving a whole second off her prelims time from earlier that day. In the 200 IM,
Sarah Gaudet finished with a time of 2:16.38, followed by teammate
CC Roehrle (2:16.84).
In the 50 freestyle,
Devan Taylor placed eighth (24.46) followed by fellow Duke, Browyn Keating, in 10th clocking her season high time of 24.63.Â
Day 2
Soleo finished seventh on the 400 IM clocking a season best time of 4:45.75. Gaudet (57.52) and Roehrle (59.59) each set a new season best time in the 100 butterfly.
Taylor placed in the top-five in the 100 breaststroke with a new personal record for this season (1:04.57). Dopfel recorded a time of 1:08.45 in the 100 breaststroke finals, shaving two seconds off from her preliminaries time. In the 100 backstroke, Keating tabbed fourth in the finals with a time of 58.38.Â
Day 3
On the final day of the Invitational, each Duke that competed in the finals of their event set a new personal season record.The final day started with the 200 backstroke where Keating recorded her best time this season, 2:07.28. Taylor (2:23.53) and Dopfel (2:31.80) represented JMU in the 200 breaststroke. Gaudet beat her best season time in the 200 butterfly by a whole second setting a new personal best time of 2:08.35.Â
Quoting Coach Pedersen
"I am very proud of the girls' energy and effort this weekend," said Coach Pedersen. "We had a lot of in season best times which is to be celebrated. We wanted more lifetime best times but that is something that we can learn from and move forward into the spring and next season."
