HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Coach
Shelley Jaudon announced the signing of
Reka Matko and
Daria Munteanu to National Letters of Intent, and they will join the women's tennis program for the 2022-23 season.
Both signees have been members of their respective country's national team and bring a wealth of international playing experience to the Dukes.
"We are thrilled for these two young ladies to be joining our JMU women's tennis family," Jaudon said. "This is an exciting time as we transition to the Sun Belt Conference, and they will be key contributors in helping us make that move at the highest level. Most importantly, they each possess the character and integrity that is representative of our program. Their level of international playing experience is going to be a great addition too."

- Three-year member of Hungary's Winter and Summer Cup in 2015, 2017 and 2019
- Won doubles title at the 2021 ITF Timisoara J5 Tournament in Romania
- Part of three Hungarian Championship team titles in 2018 and 2020
- Won 2019 singles title at Hungarian Championship and doubles titles in 2015, 2017 and 2019
- Captured four Tennis Europe doubles championships, with three wins in 2017 and another in 2018
Jaudon on Matko: "Reka is so excited to be a JMU Duke, and we mirror that excitement. She is a proven competitor with a maturity in the way she handles herself on the court. I really look forward to getting on the court with her and seeing the positive impact she will have on our program."
Daria Munteanu | 5-6 | Iasi, Romania | Mihai Eminescu National College
- Member of the 2019 Romanian Summer Cup Team
- Finished third at the 2019 Romanian National Championship
- 2020 ITF J5 runner-up
- Won four local Romanian tournaments and couple ITF junior matches
- Participated in numerous ITF tournaments and UTR clay events
Jaudon on Munteanu: "I can't wait for Daria to arrive on campus next fall, as her competitive spirit is going to immediately elevate our program. Daria's potential is untapped, so we look forward to working with her to take her game to new heights."
