HOW IT HAPPENED
Bronze Singles
JMU opened the week three wins in the Bronze bracket, as one Duke would advance through to the Singles bracket.
Aathreya Mahesh began with an opening-round win against Howard's Marcel Dawson (6-2, 6-4), but he would not advance past the second round.
After a first-round bye, Sanchez took down Duquesne's Jin Dassanayake (7-5, 6-2) before claiming a comeback win in the third round against Richmond's Wiley Davis (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) to move on.
Silver Singles
Sanchez continued his hot start with yet another come-from-behind victory, this time against William & Mary's Bill Duo (2-6, 6-2, 6-2). However, his run ended in the second round to VCU's Romain Gales (6-1, 6-0).
Lozano opened his singles weekend with a three-set win against Radford's Robert Hagen (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). He continued with a dominant triumph versus Temple's Gregoire Barety (6-2, 6-1) before dropping a three-set decision to Penn State's Sam Bossem (4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2). Lozano would get another chance, receiving a bid into the gold bracket.
Gold Singles
Down to 32 individuals, the competition proved tough, as both
Holden Koons and Lozano fell in the first round. Koons fell in a third-set tiebreak to VCU's Charles Bertimon (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4)), while Lozano dropped a tough decision to Liberty's Rafael Da Silva (6-4, 6-3).
Koons closed out the singles with a comeback win against LU's Christiaan Worst (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3)).
Bronze Doubles
Mahesh and
Canon Secord rolled to straight victories, taking down Saint Joseph's Inigo Diaz and Nassim Fenjiro (8-4) and Duquesne's Bode Vance and Liam Wickwire (8-2). Needing just one win to move on to the singles bracket, the duo fell to Mount St. Mary's Filipos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad.
Silver Doubles
Lozano and Sanchez avenged their JMU teammates' setback to the Mount St. Mary's squad, as they opened the silver bracket with an 8-6 win over Zachiotis and Karnibad.
In the second round, they edged Radford's Guilherme Severin and Konstantinos Raptis in a tiebreak (8-7 (6)) to move on to the gold bracket.
Gold Doubles
JMU struggled in the gold bracket, failing to record a win in both the first round and consolation bouts.
