HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Caroline Dozier became the tenth player in James Madison Volleyball history to break 2,000 career assists in the 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-17) over Marshall to sweep the weekend on Friday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.
The Dukes improved to 19-4 (13-1 SBC) while the Herd fell to 7-19 (1-13 SBC).
Dozier recorded 53 assists in today's match for a career total of 2,040. The setter has sat in the 10
th spot in the record book for career assists since the beginning of the season and broke the 2,000 mark on the Dukes' second point in the second set today.
On the attack, Bre Reid led the team with 16 kills, followed by
Miëtte Veldman with 15 and
Sophie Davis with 14. Veldman earned her ninth double-double of the season, adding 13 digs to the tally.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes started off the match 3-0, but the Herd responded with a 6-1 run to take the lead. Marshall continued to extend their lead, but JMU came within one at 21-20. The home team's offense added to the score to give them the first set.
Second Set
In a dominant second set, the Dukes started things off 9-4. Attack errors hurt the Herd and two 5-0 runs from the Dukes secured the win for them.
Third Set
The third set was back and forth with the teams tied 19-19 in the end. A 6-1 run from JMU secured them the win and was rounded out by two aces from Veldman.
Fourth Set
With a 6-1 start, JMU turned on the heat, never trailing the entire set. After losing the first set, the Dukes went 3-0 to win the match.
