CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Top-ranked Virginia men's tennis won a pair of doubles matches and took five of six singles bouts in straight sets to earn a 7-0 win against James Madison on Saturday evening at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

The Cavaliers moved to 2-0, while the Dukes dropped to 0-1 on the young spring season.

Markus Giersiepen highlighted JMU's play, as the freshman took a set off Douglas Yaffa in singles play, forcing a super tiebreaker.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles Play
- UVA took the early advantage on court one, where James Hopper and Edoardo Graziani downed Julian Lozano and Youssef Sadek, 6-1.
- The Cavaliers clinched the doubles point over on court three, as Ty Switzer and Douglas Yaffa defeated Giersiepen and Francisco Sinopoli, 6-3.
- The final doubles match featuring Esteve Agusti and Aathreya Mahesh against Stefan Regalia and Chris Rodesch went unfinished, with UVA's duo up 5-2.

Singles Play
- Hopper doubled Virginia's lead to 2-0 with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win on court three against Agusti.
- After dropping just three games on court four, Mans Dahlberg claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory versus Sinopoli.
- The match-clinching point occurred on court one, as Graziani took a 6-2, 6-1 decision from Sadek.
- Virginia made it a 5-0 lead on court two, where Alexander Kiefer defeated Lozano, 6-3, 6-1.
- Switzer also turned in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mahesh on court six.
- Giersiepen rounded out his first week with the program with a thrilling three-set bout on court five against Yaffa. After dropping the opening set, he rolled in set two, and despite a 5-4 lead in the super tiebreak, Yaffa rallied for a 10-7 triumph to take the match, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (7).
