Swim & Dive Inks 10 to 2025 Signing Class

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Swimming & Diving Head Coach Dane Pedersen has announced the signing of 10 swimmers and divers to round out the program's 2025 signing class on Thursday morning.

"We are thrilled about the new additions to our program from the class of 2025," Pedersen said. "They will be vital to our roster, team culture and future success. As a whole they are a large class that will fill many roles. Best of all, they are all perfect fits into the JMU community and our team's culture. We cannot wait for their arrival in the fall."

The class is comprised of nine swimmers and one diver.

Maria Costa
Events: IM/Back
Height: 5-6
Hometown: North Springfield, Pa.
High School: Cathedral Preparatory School
Accomplishments: Earned all-state honors in the 200 Medley and Free Relays, 200 IM and 100 Back her first three seasons in high school… Began high school career by placing first at states in the 200 Medley Relay… Set the 200 IM record her sophomore campaign at districts with a time of 2:08.65 and then reset the record with a time of 2:07.15 at states… Earned Girls Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year and the Mary Martucci Swimming award in her junior year… Broke the Kahkwa Country pool record for girls 15-17 butterfly and back times.

Emma Dougherty
Events: Breaststroke/Free
Height: 5-9
Hometown: Sinking Spring, Pa.
High School: Wilson
Accomplishments: Earned all-american honors in the 200 Free Relay while being named all-state in the 100 Breast and 200 Free Relay to begin high school career… Was recognized in her sophomore year as an All-American in the 200 Medley Relay while also tabbed all-state in the 400 Free Relay and honorable mention in the 50 Free, 100 Breast and 200 Medley Relay… An All-American her junior season in the 200 Free and Medley Relays and the 100 Breast, placing four at states in the 100 Breast and second in the previously mentioned relays… Was part of the 200 Medley Relay squad that broke the Cumberland Valley pool, team, county and district records… Additionally is a water polo state champion and multiple time all-state and all-berks selection.

Accomplishments: Was the state 100 Back bronze medalist her freshman season while also being the region champion in the event… Won silver in the 100 Free and 100 Back at states here sophomore season and also won the 100 Free in the region… Earned bronze in her junior campaign in the 100 Free and earned another region title in the 100 Back… Currently was named the Region Swimmer of the Year while being the state champion in the 100 Free and finishing runner up in the 100 Back at states.

Accomplishments: Four-time YMCA Long Course nationals qualifier while also qualifying for the YMCA Short Course three times nationally… Individual finalist at the long course nationals twice.

High School: Fishers
Accomplishments: A three-time sectional and conference team champion… A three-time Futures and NCSA qualifier… Began high school career by being a state qualifier in the 100 Free and was on the team that finished as runner ups in the state… Was a state semi-finalist in the 100 Free while also qualifying for the 50 Free at the state level in her sophomore season. Additionally, was the conference champion in the 100 Free… A state semi-finalist in both the 200 and 500 Free during her junior season.
