ALEXANDRIA, Va. – James Madison fell behind early and fought tough in singles before falling 4-2 to Richmond in a neutral-site men's tennis match Friday night at the Belle Haven Country Club.
The Spiders improved to 6-1 this spring, while the Dukes dropped to 1-5. It's the second straight season UR has defeated JMU.
Richmond won doubles matches on courts two and three while claiming three of five singles matches that went final.
JMU got singles victories from
Esteve Agusti and
Youssef Sadek while also taking a three-set loss and having an unfinished match in which the Dukes led.

Doubles Play
- Richmond took the doubles advantage on court three, where Dylan Atkinson and Sebastian Miano downed Sadek and Francisco Sinopoli, 6-3.
- The Spiders clinched the doubles point on court two, as Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley defeated Markus Giersiepen and Edson Sanchez, 6-2.
- Over on court one, Agusti and Julian Lozano led Daniel Kliebhan and Paxton Pritchard, 5-4, when doubles concluded.
Singles Play
- The Spiders doubles their lead to 2-0 on court one, as Kliebhan ran away from Lozano with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
- Agusti got JMU on the board on court three, as he pulled away in the second set with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph against Pritchard.
- Sadek squared the match at 2-2 after rallying past Wiley, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, on court two.
- Richmond regained the lead on court four in a tightly-contested bout, as Miano fended off Giersiepen, 6-4, 7-5.
- Sinopoli took a set lead on court five, but succumbed to Atkinson in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision, giving Richmond the clinching point.
- With the match in hand, Sanchez's matchup with Mark Taranov went unfinished, at 6-4, 2-3.
