CONWAY, S.C. – James Madison crawled out of a 3-0 hole, winning a trio of three-set singles matches before Coastal Carolina claimed the final bout to down the Dukes, 4-3, in Sun Belt Conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers improved to 7-10 (2-3 SBC) while the Dukes fell to 7-12 (0-7 SBC).
Coastal improved to 9-7 all-time against the Dukes and avenged a 4-0 loss to JMU in Harrisonburg last season.
JMU got three-set singles victories from
Youssef Sadek,
Julian Lozano and
Francisco Sinopoli.
For the Chants, Maj Tomac and Eric Tripathi each went 2-0, with Tomac earning the clinching point on court four during singles play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles Play
- Coastal took the early 1-0 lead with victories on court two and three.
- Rivers Cahill and Tripathi first beat Markus Giersiepen and Edson Sanchez, 6-3, before Ryuya Ata and Tomac won by the same score versus Sadek and Sinopoli on court two.
- Over on court one, Lozano and Esteve Agusti led Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg, 5-3, when it went unfinished.
Singles Play
- Coastal built a 3-0 lead in the match after turning in wins on courts six and three.
- Tripathi took down Sanchez in straight sets, at 6-3, 6-3, before Wayenburg turned in the same exact scoreline in his courth-three victory against Agusti.
- JMU got on the board on court four, as the Dukes won their first of three three-set bouts. After falling in the first, Sinopoli bounced back for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph aginat Juan Cruz Collardin.
- The Dukes got within 3-2 on court two, as Lozano held off Ata with a strong finish, downing the CCU player by a margin of 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
- Sadek squared the match at three apiece on court one, as he overcame a set deficit to defeat Berna Ruiz by scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
- In the final match Giersiepen held a 4-3 lead in the third set before Tomas rallied back to take a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 win on court four to clinch the win for the hosts.

JMU closes the regular season on Saturday, April 13 when it hosts Old Dominion at 2 p.m. from Hillside Courts. It will be Senior Day for
