NEW ORLEANS – James Madison senior
Elena Kraleva was voted Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after winning all four matches during JMU's home sweep last weekend.
Â
Kraleva went 2-0 at both No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles to lead the Dukes to wins against Southern Miss (4-0) and #60 South Alabama (4-1), as they moved to 4-2 in Sun Belt play. In both outings, she and
Mia Saveljic also teamed to clinch the doubles point.
Â
In singles play, she turned in identical 6-2, 6-1 victories, defeating USM's Malannia Vashkevich and USA's Rio Maeda. Her win Saturday was the quickest of any player, and her Sunday triumph gave JMU a 3-1 match lead.
Â
Teaming with Saveljic, the duo clinched the doubles point both days by breaking the opponent's serve late in the match, as they won 7-5 against the Golden Eagles and 6-4 versus the Jaguars.
Â
This is the sixth career weekly award for Kraleva and her first in a JMU uniform. She was named Western Athletic Conference Singles Player of the Week three times and Doubles Team of the Week twice during her time with the Seattle.
Â
It's also JMU's second Sun Belt Player of the Week nod this spring, as
Daria Munteanu was honored back on March 5.
