HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison rolled through doubles play and controlled the pace through singles action en route to a 6-1 men's tennis victory against Hampton on Friday afternoon at Hillside Courts.
The Dukes (4-2) extended their win streak to four straight after claiming a pair of doubles courts while registering five straight-set triumphs in singles against the Pirates (0-4).
JMU took an early 1-0 lead with doubles wins on courts three and one. The team of
Grant Kroodsma and
Francisco Sinopoli cruised to a 6-1 win over Aryan Arora and Benjamin Mwanza before the duo of
Zach Fleishman and
Aurelien Schmitt clinched doubles with a 6-3 decision against Benedict Badza and Rafael Padilha.
In singles play, all six bouts were completed in straight sets, as the match ended before the two hour mark.
JMU doubled its lead to 2-0 on court six, as
Harrison Lee dominated play against Jude Killikelly in a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Hampton got on the board over on court two, as Padilha downed Schmitt by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Moments later, Fleishman finished things off on court four, where he defeated Badza, 6-1, 6-4.
The clinching point occurred on court five, as
Gur Libal reeled off five straight games in the second set after being behind 5-2 to beat Arora, at 6-2, 7-5. JMU extended the lead to 5-1 on court one, as
Esteve Agusti earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Tshion Fedorov. Sinopoli closed the day with his 6-3, 6-4 win against Kohei Konishi, which included a comeback in the second set.
JMU returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 22 when it hosts Longwood at 1 p.m. from East Campus Tennis Courts.
