BUIES CREEK, N.C. – James Madison won its second consecutive match by a single point, using a trio of straight-set singles wins to down Campbell, 4-3, in men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the James Nisbet Tennis Center.
The Dukes (6-3) evened the all-time series to 2-2 with the Camels (4-6), as it marked JMU's first win over CU since the inaugural meeting back in 1989.
JMU won the doubles point and claimed courts two, five and six to clinch its third road win of the spring.
The Dukes opened the day with doubles wins on courts one and three while also holding a lead on court two. The team of
Esteve Agusti and
Francisco Sinopoli earned a 6-2 win against Thomas Drapeau and Max Hamon on court one, before the duo of
Harrison Lee and
Aurelien Schmitt took down Alex Fragasso and Mikolaj Kowal, 6-3, on court three.
Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets, with JMU taking three of them.
JMU made it a 2-0 match on court six, as Lee, who clinched Friday's victory at UNCG, dominated in a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Hamon. The lead grew to 3-0 on court five, where
Gur Libal downed Matias Lofink by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Ryan Morgan clinched the win for JMU on court two, as he held off Adi Dagan in the second set for his 6-3, 7-5 victory.
Campbell got on the board after, as Aleksandar Hudjec defeated Sinopoli, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4, on court four. The Camels also claimed victories on courts one and three, as Drapeau beat Schmitt (7-5, 6-4) and Fragasso squeaked out a win over
Zach Fleishman (7-4, 7-6 (4)).
JMU continues its seven-match road trip next Friday, March 6 at Richmond. The bout is set for a 12:30 p.m. start from the capital city.
