Bio
Steve Hood joined the JMU's men's basketball program soon after "Lefty" Driesell's hiring as the team's coach and had two outstanding seasons with the Dukes. He was the Colonial Athletic Association's player of the year and scoring leader during each of his JMU seasons (1989-90 and 1990-91), and his scoring and shooting marks remain among the better marks in team history.
The transfer from Maryland averaged 22.0 points per game for the Dukes' 20-11 team in 1989-90 and 20.7 points per outing for their 19-10 squad in 1990-91. Both JMU teams on which Hood competed compiled the CAA's best regular-season record and participated in the National Invitation Tournament. Hood had 68 three-point field goals during the 1989-90 season and 54 during the 1990-91 campaign, and his 46.4 percent (122-263) career three-point shooting mark remains a JMU record.
The New Carrollton, Md., native had seven 30-point scoring efforts in two JMU seasons, including 36 points against Oklahoma and 32 against North Carolina and Nevada-Las Vegas, and he averaged 21.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 60 career JMU games. He was a starter in each JMU game for two seasons.
