Heading into her sixth season at JMU, Kelly Moore serves as the head cheerleading coach and coordinator of spirit and promotions. She is responsible for all elements of the cheerleading program, including choreography, game performances, appearances, uniforms and costuming and budgeting.
Â
Every week, Moore facilitates practices with large co-ed, small co-ed and all-girl teams. She schedules her team for all of its athletic promotions, appearances and gameday events, in addition to coordinating nutrition and workout programs for each individual in order to maximize strength and conditioning.
Â
In her previous seasons at JMU, Moore led the Dukes to four top-four finishes at the NCA National Collegiate Championships, including the national championship title in 2012 and a runner-up performance in 2013. She has also coached 10 All-Americans and qualified for group stunt nationals in her first year of coaching.
Â
In addition to her responsibilities with the cheerleading team, Moore also serves as the in-game host for all football, men’s and women’s basketball and select baseball games. She coordinates all of the in-game promotions, including giveaways and contests, and assists with creating marketing plans for 14 NCAA Division I sports. Outside of JMU, Moore is currently a Virginia High School League certified cheerleading official.
Â
Prior to joining the staff at JMU, Moore was the Assistant Spirit Coordinator at Southern Methodist University, where she implemented the introduction of the new Blue Squad, an additional intermediate game-day squad. She also spent five years as an on-screen anchor for local business commercials for TV 33 in Myrtle Beach, S.C, and served as a project manager at United Sports of America, LLC in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Â
A graduate of Coastal Carolina University, Moore held two positions at her alma mater, first serving as a marketing assistant, a job which included being responsible for sponsorships and gameday promotions. A former MVP cheerleader and team captain at CCU herself, she then moved on to a position as the head cheerleading coach for three years, managing all elements of the team and National College Championship duties.
