TOWSON, Md., Jan. 23, 2010 ? Junior Jessie Everett (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) shattered both diving school records and vaulted to the top seed in the Colonial Athletic Association in the one-meter board as James Madison defeated Loyola 244-56 and fell to host Towson 169-131 in a double-dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Towson's Burdick Pool.
JMU is now 6-2 for the season overall, 2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the loss to conference mate Towson.
Everett became the first JMU diver in program history to top 300 points in the one-meter board in a six-dive event with her score of 323.60. Her score was 42.65 points better than her previous personal record and 35.6 points better than the previous school record of 288.00 set last year by sophomore teammate Nicole Jotso (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern).
Everett also made a big jump in the three-meter dive as her new school record of 325.50 blasted her previous personal best of 293.75 while besting Jotso's school mark from last year of 312.38.
With a two-month break since their last competition, the Dukes' training efforts were particularly evident in the diving events as seven of the eight diving scores posted by JMU resulted in personal records.
In addition to Everett, Jotso also topped each of her previous school records with a 292.35 in the one-meter dive and 317.45 in the three-meter. Sophomore Chelsea Savage (Bedford, Texas/L.D. Bell) was fourth in the three-meter in 285.85 and fifth in the one-meter in 249.85. Her three-meter score means that all four JMU divers have now qualified this season for the NCAA Zone Meet. Freshman Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) was third in the one-meter in 282.25.
Junior Lisa Colapietro (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) factored into three wins as she swept the breaststroke races, winning the 100 in 1:05.76 and taking the 200 in 2:22.36. She also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay that won in 1:47.42, the seventh-best time in program history. She was joined by freshman Caroline Burns
