HARRISONBURG, Va. – Three student-athletes were acknowledged for their excellent play during the 2015 season as the James Madison women's soccer team presented its end of the year team awards on Sunday.
Leading the way was senior
Ellen Forrest, who received both the Defensive Most Valuable Player distinction and the Coaches' Award. Ellen started as a non-scholarship walk-on at JMU and elevated her game to become a starter, earn a scholarship and become a two-time team captain and record-setting goalkeeper.
This past fall, the Midlothian, Va. native posted a 1.09 goals allowed per game average with 110 saves, 16 of which came in a record-breaking performance against the top-seeded Hofstra Pride in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament semifinals. In her career, Ellen tallied a 38-21-3 record in 67 games and ranks in the top-10 in single-season shutouts (1
st), single-game saves (1
st), career goals against average (3
rd), career saves (5
th) and career shutouts (6
th).
The Offensive Most Valuable Player was junior
Ashley Herndon, who also turned in an outstanding 2015 campaign. She led the CAA in points with 34 on 14 goals and six assists, was third in the nation in game-winning goals with eight and started all 23 games en route to First Team All-CAA and VaSID All-State First Team selections.
Rounding out the awards was Rookie of the Year which went to redshirt freshman
Kylie Hegemier. Kylie appeared in 22 games with 18 starts on the backline to help the Dukes to 10 shutouts and a CAA Championship. She tallied her first career assist against William & Mary in the regular-season finale.
The Dukes wrap up their spring schedule this Saturday, April 16 when they host St. Francis (Pa.) for a 2 p.m. match at University Park.
