HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison cross country has released its 2021 schedule as announced by head coach
Dave Rinker on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
"We are really excited with our schedule for the upcoming fall." Rinker said. "It's a great mix of lower key competition at Richmond, George Mason and our home meet with big meets at Paul Short and Penn State."
Â
The Dukes will remain in state for their first three meets, opening the season at the Richmond Opener on Saturday, Sept. 4. JMU will make the trek to Leesburg, Va., on Sept. 10 to race in the Mason Invitational held by George Mason.
Â
The annual JMU Invitational is slated for a 5 p.m. start on Friday, Sept. 17 at New Market Battlefield. JMU will get some rest the following week before heading to the renown Paul Short Invitational held at Lehigh on Oct. 1. The final meet of the regular season is slated for Friday, Oct. 15 when the Dukes head to compete in the Penn State Open at 10 a.m.
Â
"Both Paul Short and Penn State have historically contained some of the best teams in the country." Rinker said. "Those meets will have large fields - 30 to 40 teams - and will be high quality. They will provide us with competition we need to prepare for the postseason."
Â
The CAA Championships will be held in Franklin Park, Mass., on Saturday, Oct. 30. The women's 6k is set to begin at 11 a.m. Last season, JMU finished third at CAAs led by then-freshman
Miranda Stanhope with an All-CAA second-place finish.
Â
JMU will travel to Lexington, Ky., to race in the NCAA Regional Championship on Nov. 12 in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla. The ECAC Championship returns to New York, N.Y. and is slated for a 10 a.m. start on Nov. 20.
