TULSA, Okla. – James Madison's
Holden Koons and
Youssef Sadek completed play at the 2022 ITA All-American Championships after four days of action (Oct. 1-4) at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa and at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park.
Koons had a solid showing in singles play, racking up four wins and advancing to the qualifying round, while Sadek finished 1-1 in pre-qualifying.
The duo also competed in doubles, falling in the main draw round of 64.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Singles – Pre-Qualifying
Koons opened the event with four consecutive victories during pre-qualifying to advance to the qualifying rounds.
He began All-Americans on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Omaha's Ethan Gaubert and followed that up with a narrow 6-4, 7-6 (4) triumph versus UAB's Michal Lusovky.
The following day, Koons picked up two more hard-fought victories, taking down Santa Clara's Arthur Neuhaus, 7-3, 7-6 (4), and Mississippi State's Ewen Lumsden, 6-1, 6-4.
Sadek rallied back from an opening-round loss and fended off Toledo's Adam Kovac, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, in a consolation match.
Singles – Qualifying
Koons had a tough task in his opening match in the qualifying round, as he fell to Florida's Nate Bonetto, 6-2, 6-1.
He closed his week in Tulsa with 7-6 (3), 6-3 setback against Portland's Eleftherios Neos in a consolation bout.
Doubles – Main Draw
In doubles play, Koons and Sadek fell to Texas A&M's Guido Marson and Giulio Perego in straight sets, at 6-2, 7-5.
