HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis continued their strong start to the spring season, defeating George Mason 7-0 Sunday at the East Campus Tennis Courts.
The Dukes improved to 3-0, while the Patriots fell to 1-1.
James Madison ran away with the doubles point to start the match.
Holden Koons and
Youssef Sadek had their second straight 6-1 victory on court one, this time beating Rithik Sardana and Ryan Charles.
On court three,
Stefan Petrovic and
Edson Sanchez notched their first win as a duo this season. They earned a 6-2 victory over Momin Khan and Herman Jentoft to clinch the doubles point for James Madison.
Koons continued his strong start to the season on court one in singles play. He finished with a dominant performance over Rishab Sardana, 6-0, 6-1.
Sadek also carried the momentum from doubles into singles, winning 6-3, 6-4 over Khan on court three.
The clinching point for the Dukes came on court two, by way of
William Karpinski. The senior outlasted Rithik Sardana, 6-4, 7-5, to cement JMU's win.
Oscar Hernandez continued the run for the Dukes on court four. He took set one over Charles, 7-5, and leading 2-0 in the second, the match was retired.
With the team result in hand, the Dukes and Patriots finished the final two matches using an 8-game pro set format. On court five, Sanchez earned the 8-4 victory over Jentoft.
Mathieu Josserand finished the sweep for the Dukes, beating Faisal Alrebdi, 8-3.
